Careers Guidance

At Backworth Park Primary School, we want to deliver a broad range of education to our children with regard to the differing career paths, further education paths and career choices that will be available to our pupils in their futures.

We are ambitious for our pupils and as such have developed an annual focus of career types to focus upon during the academic year. This educates the children on a broad range of apprenticeships, trades, further education options and the wider job sector. We deliver sessions on the last academic Thursday of the month, teaching the children about these different areas of career opportunities.

We host our annual 'Apprenticeship Week' and 'Careers Week', where we invite visitors to school to provide talks and presentations to the children, with opportunities for question and answer sessions.

Within our wider curriculum and personal development offer, we teach the children about inspirational people and their career paths. For example, during Black History Month and International Women's Day we learn about the important work of signifcant figures such as Eric Irons, Beryl Gilroy, Lauren James and Alison Kay.

Further, we work with external agencies, who deliver sessions with our pupils around skills development in the field of work, such as Primary Enterprise and Energy Futures Education.
